The 20-year-old activist and climate activist Greta Thunberg was arrested today (Tuesday) in a protest against the demolition of a village in Germany, in favor of the expansion of a coal mine there.

About 6,000 people were present at the demonstration, while some of them blocked the entrance to the mine with their bodies, and prevented the bulldozers from entering the place.

The evacuation of the village located in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia was approved earlier, in a deal in which the government allowed its demolition.

This, in favor of the expansion of a central coal mine in the place.

The demonstrators who arrived at the scene last weekend protested the government's decision, while some of them, among them Thunberg, remained at the site and blocked the entrance to the mine even today,

"a betrayal of the present and future generations", one of the demonstrators called the government's decision to expand the mine.

"Germany is one of the most polluting countries in the world, it must be responsible," Thunberg added to his claims.
