After offering a monetary reward to those who kill dogs and returning it, Taysir Abu Sanina complained that the phenomenon of stray dogs has not been solved • "It's only a matter of time until the next child is bitten" • "The municipality does not have the capacity to deal with this. The danger is there, it spreads diseases, people are afraid"

Two months after causing an uproar following an interview on local radio in which he called on the residents of Hebron to kill stray dogs in exchange for 20 shekels and retracted his words, the mayor of Hebron, Taysir Abu Sanina, said today (Tuesday) that the problem of stray dogs has not been solved and that they continue to roam freely on the city's streets and its environment in a way that poses a danger to public peace.

"It's a worrying thing, and I'm not the only one worried, the residents are asking what will be the end of this phenomenon. So far there are no steps that have brought solutions to the problem. We are in contact with various associations to see how we can put an end to the nuisance, but I don't see any practical actions. At any moment we can To hear about another child being bitten or a resident being attacked by a stray dog, it spreads diseases, people are afraid," Abu Sanina told Israel Hayom.

Shocking documentation: the mayor promised a financial reward - residents hung dogs

According to Abu Sanina, there are no statistics regarding the number of stray dogs, but according to estimates, it is several hundreds.

He said that the fight against stray dogs requires an all-out effort, and emphasized that Israeli involvement is required.

"Some of the dogs come from all kinds of places, both from the Green Line areas because not all places have a fence, and from the areas of the settlements. The dogs move from place to place, and in the end this is a problem that affects the lives of the people. Israel needs to intervene and take part in this matter," he noted.

"The Hebron Municipality does not have the capacity and means to deal with this. There needs to be a trained team that knows how to catch the dogs and treat them. It requires professionals in the field who know what needs to be done with these dogs. First of all, vaccinate them, then neuter them. I have nothing to do, We don't have resources, nor could you have them."

Abu Sanina.

"We don't have the ability and means to deal with it,"

About two months ago, Abu Sanina offered a cash reward to whoever would kill a stray dog, in a statement that provoked sharp criticism.

There were those who interpreted his words as giving the green light to "murdering dogs", and on social networks they mocked him for encouraging residents to kill dogs in the streets.

Abu Sanina, for his part, retracted the statement and claimed that he had been misunderstood.

According to him, he did not intend to call for the killing of dogs, but presented a general idea that was supposed to be brought up for discussion in the Hebron City Council as part of dealing with the phenomenon of stray dogs, as well as to stimulate the animal associations to action.
