Pro-government picketers will control prices in 25 supermarkets on the Atlantic Coast

2023-01-17T21:22:09.845Z

They advanced it to Clarín from Somos Barrios de Pie, the organization of Daniel Menéndez. They would start on Friday.

As

Clarín

announced over the weekend, piqueteros allied to the Government will be part of the price control operations in supermarkets throughout the country, which had started with the Truckers union, which led to a strong controversy in the political arc that derived in a complaint by Elisa Carrió against President Alberto Fernández, the Minister of Economy Sergio Massa and the Secretary of Commerce Matías Tombolini.

This Friday the 20th, at 25 points along the Atlantic Coast, leaders of

Somos Barrios de Pie

, the social organization led by

Daniel Menéndez

, will be controlling the correct application of the so-called "Fair Prices" in supermarkets and shops.

The leader himself, who is also an official in the Social Development area, assured

Clarín

, in a talk in which he announced that he himself will travel to the Coast to lead the group.

- Are they going to join the price controls in supermarkets, how did it happen with Truckers?

- It is something that we have been doing since November, when we got in contact with (the minister) Massa and with (the secretary) Tombolini, at the time the implementation of Fair Prices was announced, which is being a program that works, in shops and popular neighborhoods.

It was possible to lower inflation in food, which had touched several months of 10% increase.

- What does the audit consist of?

There are those who believe that you are going to squeeze the merchants so that they do not raise prices.

-

That is a stigmatizing look at the issue.

What we do is training among neighbors, so that they know how to use the Fair Prices application, which is a tool that allows them to report shortages and compare values.

We were concerned that the price agreement was not going to crystallize in the neighborhoods, which is why we implemented this mechanism.

- How is it now?

Does it change anything?

- No, we are simply going to continue doing the same, but now on the Atlantic Coast, in the middle of the tourist season.

We have planned outreach days at supermarket doors, which consist of three or four basic points and informative material through which we explain how they have to report if there are overprices or a lack of stock of a product.

We will be on Friday at 25 points on the coast, especially in General Pueyrredón -district that is home to Mar del Plata- and Villa Gesel

.

- Do you finance the trip from Somos Barrios de Pie?

- The only one traveling from Buenos Aires is me.

The rest are local leaders of the group, who are going to join the controls

.

- Isn't it a task that should be in charge of the State?

- We are here to collaborate from our place, to help the consumer audit, or to do it ourselves on site.

We are going to be outside the supermarkets, not inside, that is why the questions are not understood.

The political discussion in Argentina reached very non-serious levels.

It is not understood that opposition leaders such as Elisa Carrió and Horacio Rodríguez Larreta point to results that have proven to be successful.

Alberto Fernández and Daniel Menéndez, from Somos Barrios de Pie.

truckers on pause

The decision to add piqueteros to price controls is added to that of incorporating Truckers unionists, as warned last week, with Pablo Moyano leading the controls.

However, in the last hour there was talk of pausing that chance, due to the controversy surrounding the measure and the criticism it generated in the opposition.

According to Menéndez, the idea is that starting in March, when the summer season ends, controls will continue to be carried out periodically throughout the country,

especially in the AMBA.

In this context, after expressing their rejection of the measure, businessmen from the supermarket sector warned that Fair Prices could be lowered if this initiative goes ahead.

Who set off the alarm was

Víctor Palpacelli

, head of the Argentine Federation of Supermarkets.

It was in an interview with CNN Radio, where he warned of the rejection caused by the measure among his colleagues.

"We see it with concern, due to the simple fact that these situations remove the possibility of different regional chains joining the program. On the contrary, those who are added could get off because they are discouraged by this type of situation to which they expose us" , expressed the referent.
