Sister André, the French nun who was the world's oldest person, has died at the age of 118.
The city's mayor, Hubert Falco, announced the news of her death on Twitter, writing, "It is with immense sadness and many emotions that I learn of the passing tonight of our Dean of Humanity #SisterAndré."
The nun's spokesman, David Tavella, said she died at 2 a.m. local time Tuesday and lived near Toulon.
