Today (Wednesday) in the Knesset, we celebrated "Operation Dogo", a testimony initiative by Holocaust survivor David (Dogo) Leitner, in which he eats falafel every year on January 18, the day of the death march from Auschwitz - as a symbol of the victory of life.
Dogo sat down with ministers and Knesset members to echo the traditional venture.
At the Beit Haadot museum, they decided to turn the private custom of Dogo and his family into an event where people throughout the country and the world will eat falafel on this day and their participation will help preserve the memory of the Holocaust.
David arrived today at the Knesset and there we will meet with him members of the Knesset from several parties, including Gadi Eisenkot and Matan Kahane from the state camp.
On January 18, 1945, Dogo, who was then only 14 years old, went on the death march together with about 60,000 Auschwitz prisoners.
During his difficult moments on the march, he dreamed of eating bilkleach, the round rolls that his mother had promised him he would eat in the Land of Israel.
After he survived and immigrated to Israel, he decided as a private tradition that every year on January 18th he would eat falafel, which in his eyes resembled the food his mother had promised him, as a symbol of the victory of life.

Minister of National Missions Orit Struck, daughter of a Holocaust survivor, also joined in marking the custom.
"I want to tell you that you are a hero," she told him.
"Your heroism is not only that you survived the horrors but that you took the pain of the Holocaust to a place of life and resurrection with a memory for generations. This is what makes you a national hero and with this unifying initiative we must remember, even if we have severe differences of opinion - we are one people."
"This is the most exciting falafel dish I've ever eaten," said Gilad Karib from the Labor Party.
"Today 78 years ago Dogo was released from Birkenau, today he came to eat falafel in the Israeli Knesset. After a stormy morning of arguments - it is good to remember that we also have one house to protect him."
