'Justice is perpetual': the claim during the tribute to Fernando Báez Sosa three years after the crime

2023-01-18T22:34:34.710Z

The parents arrived to applause to participate in an interfaith ceremony in Dolores. At 8:00 p.m., there will be another appointment in front of the Le Brique bowling alley.

Three years after the

crime of Fernando Báez Sosa

, the father and mother of the murdered young man have already arrived to participate in a

tribute in Dolores

, where the trial is taking place.

In addition, the bishop of Mar del Plata will officiate a

mass in Villa Gesell

, in front of Le Brique, the nightclub where the young man was killed.

After day 13 of the trial against the eight rugbiers, Silvino and Graciela were received with soft and respectful applause at the Municipal Amphitheater of Parque Libres del Sur, in the city of Dolores.

There will be an

interreligious prayer

that was declared of "municipal interest" by the party authorities.

They were also accompanied by a unified cry: "Justice."

It was sung by 2,500 people from the stands of the amphitheater who rarely mobilize but who found a mobilizing cause.

Although the ceremony was scheduled for 7:00 p.m., the many people who greeted Fernando's parents forced the start to be delayed for a few minutes.

Imam Marwan Gill (President of the Argentinian Ahmadiyya Muslim Community), Pastor Marcelo Lopez Pavón (Representative of Aciera in Dolores), Iya Eugenia Calvi (Afro-Umbandist Religious Minister), Eric Escala (Archbishop of the Anglican Church) will participate in the interreligious act. in Argentina), Rabbi Saul Bonino (Judaism) and Monsignor Carlos Malfa (Bishop of the Catholic Church in Dolores).

"We want peace and justice," Fernando's father and mother had assured when announcing the call in the local amphitheater, a few blocks from the courts where they have been attending the hearings in the trial.

In this way, the central act will not take place in Villa Gesell, where last year both participated in a ceremony that -as will happen this year- was also attended by representatives of various faiths and spoke.

The call in Dolores has the presence of other relatives of Fernando who arrived from Paraguay.

From early on, well-known people and figures (such as Juan Carlos Blumberg, Axel's father) arrived in the city, where they staged some tense moments when the rugbiers and their parents left the courts.

Villa Gesell prepares its tribute to Fernando

Meanwhile, in Gesell there will also be a tribute in his memory.

It will be a mass that Gabriel Mestre, current bishop of Mar del Plata and former parish priest of Villa Gesell, will officiate.

This appointment will begin at 8:00 p.m., on Avenida 3 between 2012 and Avenida Buenos Aires, in front of the Le Brique nightclub, where Báez Sosa was murdered three years ago.

Throughout the day, dozens of people came to leave their offerings in the place.

The influx intensified in the afternoon, as the time of the mass approaches.

The tree that remembers Fernando in Villa Gesell in front of Le Brique no longer announces the months without the murdered teenager.

"Justice is perpetual", sums up a poster recently placed in the middle of rosaries of snails, stamps, flowers and candles.

Opposite, the nightclub Le Brique is still closed.

Despite the fact that those responsible are not investigated for any crime, the pain associated with the place is still great.

"Lifetime for all, lifelong community tasks for parents," adds a smaller sign.

The rest of the tributes for Fernando

The demands for justice by Báez Sosa and the memory of the young man murdered in Villa Gesell are repeated in several cities in Argentina, with appointments in Mar del Plata and the City of Buenos Aires.

In the populous seaside resort, two parallel calls were launched to march from 7:00 p.m.

One of the meeting points will be in Las Toscas.

The organizers asked that those who come bring a candle to light in the place in tribute to Fernando.

The other call will be at the Municipal Palace.

In this case, they asked to carry balloons as a way of remembering the young man.

The mobilization will culminate in La Rambla.

For its part, in the City of Buenos Aires a demonstration was already held at the Obelisk.

After noon, dozens of people gathered peacefully with handkerchiefs, posters and T-shirts.

The requests for justice will be replicated at 7:00 p.m. on Avenida Pueyrredón y Peña, in Recoleta, in front of the house where Fernando Báez Sosa lived.

Another meeting point is the Marianista School, in Caballito, where for days -as requested by Fernando's parents- they receive donations of supplies and non-perishable food.

At 8:00 p.m., meanwhile, the expressions of pain and memory will reach Zárate, the city where the eight rugby players accused of the crime live.

Self-convened neighbors will meet in the main square of the city and march peacefully through the streets.
