A 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck off the province of Gorontalo, located on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, without reports of injuries or damage.
Xinhua quoted the Indonesian Meteorological and Geophysical Agency as saying: "The earthquake, which occurred 69 km southeast of Bun Bolango in Gorontalo Province, was detected at a depth of 138 km under the sea floor."
No warning was issued of the possibility of a tsunami.
Indonesia is located on the Pacific Ring of Fire, where tectonic plates meet, and their friction leads to earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
