An earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale struck the southern Philippines today, with no reports of damage or injuries.
Xinhua quoted the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology as saying: "The quake occurred at a depth of 64 km, about 352 km southeast of Sarangani town in Davao Occidental Province, in the south of the country."
The institute added: The source of the earthquake is tectonic, and it is expected to lead to aftershocks and damage.
The Philippines is subject to frequent seismic activities, due to its location along the Pacific Ring of Fire.
