Macron promises to turn France into an electronic sports powerhouse (Public Sénat)

Several months have already passed since we reported on the economic plans of the French President, Emmanuel Macron, and his desire to turn it into THE Country fro video games, in his words, which will be associated with game development and hosting glittering e-sports events.

He explicitly stated that along with the Olympics in 2024, he also wants to hold the world championships in the biggest eSports games: the League of Legends World Championship, the Counter Strike Major and the Dota International.

Now it seems that France is pursuing this strategy with all its might, and the government is presenting a new political plan for the next three years that will hopefully attract as many huge events and professional and amateur players as possible and present the country as one that nurtures the culture of gaming and e-sports.

These are the steps presented:

the establishment of a government office already this summer whose role will be to monitor and find investors (public and private) who will be willing to invest in a project that will promote competitive players.

- Tightening ties with tournament organizers and major game distributors such as Wallab, Activision-Blizzard, Riot Games, Ubisoft.

This will lead to full cooperation and synergy between all parties involved.

- The promotion of e-sports as a sport that requires teamwork, mental fitness and maintaining health from the players.

The office will try to avoid activities that present the industry in a negative light that leads to addictions, exposure to violence, isolation and physical inactivity.

-Establishment of a committee under the supervision of the French Olympic Committee that will be responsible for developing and presenting a program for a week of electronic sports games, which will run concurrently with the Olympic Games in 2024.

The committee will be assisted by

Mathieu Pecha

, Olympic medalist and manager of the French Team Vitality's counter strike team.

This will not be the first attempt to bring the electronic sports industry close to the Olympic Games.

During the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, an official Esports tournament was held in collaboration with the Olympic Committee and the Intel company in the games Rocket League and Street Fighter V.

France itself is no stranger to the world of electronic sports and already hosted the preparation and home stages of the League of Legends World Championship in 2015 in the city of Paris, and also 4 years later Then the final event for 2019 as Team FunPlus Phoenix defeated G2 Esports.

This coming May, it will host Counter Strike's BLAST Major, one of the most prestigious tournaments in the game where the prize pool is 1.25 million dollars.
