An Argentine artist uses the devalued currency as a canvas

Sergio Guillermo Diaz manages to raise the value of the currency by creating detailed portraits on it

Sergio Guillermo Diaz is an Argentine artist who has decided to raise the value of his country's devalued banknote with an unconventional method.

The cartoonist creates works of art on paper money and manages to resell his pieces at a higher value than they originally had.

From his workshop in the province of Salta, Diaz has created portraits of Messi, Bob Ross and Greta Thunberg on banknotes.

For the artist, his works are an example of the effects that the population has had due to the inflation that Argentina has experienced in recent years.

The country closed 2022 with year-on-year inflation approaching 100% for the first time in 30 years.

The phenomenon has had an impact on housing, water and electricity costs, with reductions in energy subsidies and a general rise in prices for public services.
