Hugo Moyano accuses those who criticized the trucker price control of being violent: "We are unfairly attacked"

2023-01-18T17:35:02.882Z

Through a statement, the head of the Truck Drivers targeted the media and the opposition. 'They seek to demonize the labor movement,' he asserted.

In the midst of the controversy generated between the Government and the supermarket sector due to the decision to include unions and social movements in price controls, the head of the Truck Drivers, Hugo Moyano, faced criticism from the opposition and assured that his organization is the target of

"organized and permanent attacks"

.

In a press release, the union leader blamed the press and the opposition for having misrepresented the information about the incorporation of Truckers into the price control scheme, while accusing them of trying to "demonize the labor movement."

Then he made a summary of the efforts that were made within the scope of the Ministry of Commerce, headed by Matías Tombolini "with the intention of continuing to collaborate with

the objective of combating inflation

."

In this sense, Moyano pointed out that the mission was to ensure "the supply of merchandise in the event of shortages in supermarkets within the framework of the agreement between the government and food companies to maintain an inflation ceiling of 4% called Fair Prices ".

He also specified that the main food and beverage producing companies such as Danone, Coca-Cola, Sancor and Quilmes participated in the meeting held with the Government, who assumed the commitment to respect prices.

"The objective was to maintain the price of products in supermarkets to avoid an escalation in inflation and in this sense, our Trade Union Organization that represents workers who work in logistics, dairy transport, transportation of water and soft drinks, etc. to be able to determine why the products do not reach the retail distributors at the prices agreed with the large food and beverage producing companies," the union stated.

In one of the paragraphs of the document, Moyano pointed against Mauricio Macri.

"

These characters who denigrate us are in campaign mode

and want to use the Teamsters Union to demonize labor rights and be able to destroy them, if they become a government. They want employers to be able to pay starvation wages to establish slavery modern," he said.

Moyano even came out at the crossroads of the City Government's decision to set up a telephone line so that merchants can report possible squeezes by truckers in this price control plan.

"It is striking that the City Government, through its Chief of Staff, Felipe Miguel, has authorized 911 to denounce us by creating a media circus with the sole purpose of obtaining political gain, but when they really have to fulfill their role by exercising the They do not control contracts and tenders, as, for example, has happened for years with the towing service in the city," he said.

Almost in one of the final sections of the document, Moyano said: "We are unfairly attacked when we did nothing other than collaborate at the request of the Government, together with other union organizations, with the Secretary of Commerce, which is the only one that has the power to control prices.

Below is the text of the statement:

IN THE FACE OF DECEPTION AND VIOLENCE WE WILL IMPOSE THE TRUTH WHICH IS WORTH MORE THAN THAT (Juan D. Perón)

Within the framework of the repercussions of our participation in the inspections carried out by the National Secretariat of Commerce, and given the misrepresentation of the media and opposition politicians who only seek to demonize the labor movement, it is important to clarify that In the month of December 2022, a meeting was held at the Secretary of Commerce attended by a representation of our Union with the intention of continuing to collaborate with the objective of combating inflation that has afflicted our country for decades, ensuring the supply of merchandise due to lack of stocks in supermarkets within the framework of the agreement between the government and food companies to maintain an inflation ceiling of 4% called Fair Prices.

Subsequently, a new meeting was held including the main food and beverage producing companies such as Danone, Coca-Cola, Sancor and Quilmes, who assumed the commitment to respect prices.

The objective was to maintain the price of the products in supermarkets to avoid an escalation in inflation and in this sense, our Trade Union Organization that represents the workers who work in the logistics activity, dairy transport, transport water and soft drinks, etc.

to be able to determine why the products do not reach the retail distributors at the prices agreed with the large food and beverage producing companies.

This call has to do with the unwavering commitment that our Trade Organization has been demonstrating in collaborating with everything that helps to supply the country, given that the activity of freight transport is what sustains and mobilizes the economy, which is becoming evident. Worldwide.

It should be remembered that when the pandemic affected us, we were among those who made the most effort to supply the country, suffering loss of life, anguish, and suffering.

We had to transfer colleagues who were stranded in the mountains.

We suffered mistreatment in different provinces where we were not even allowed to go down to the bathroom or eat, they treated us as carriers and transmitters of the virus.

Later, the same characters who imposed measures that mistreated our workers, when we had to transport the vaccines, waited for us with open arms.

Thus, the country was able to continue supplying itself thanks to our work.

We lost many lives while many politicians were quiet at home working only on Zoom.

Among the injustices we suffer, the reduction of wages for workers who contracted the COVID virus stands out, not recognizing it as an occupational disease and deducting the corresponding Per diem and Meal from the salary for each day worked.

When we suffered from the pandemic, we put our eleven sanatoriums (among them the Antártida Sanatorium) at the service of the entire society to contain it in the absence of highly complex beds.

We also collaborate by taking charge of the transport of 27,000 beds from Misiones to equip the isolation centers that were opened in Tecnópolis, La Matanza and Quilmes.

It should also be remembered that we were declared essential and no worker missed work, and that unfortunately we lost the lives of workers, leaders and family members for being on the streets helping in the midst of a pandemic.

Now for accompanying the government, opposition politicians and the media denigrate us and treat us as gangsters, regardless of the fact that those who attack us never did anything useful for the country and all they constantly do is exude resentment and hatred against truckers and against all of society, sowing contempt for all working men and women.

When they had to be government, all they did was generate more poverty and put the country in debt for 100 years.

It is unfortunate that there are gentlemen like former President Macri, who spends his time teaching, when he has defrauded the state of more than 70 billion pesos (Correo Argentino Case) and has indebted the country for 50 billion dollars to spend all that money abroad favoring their friends.

These characters who denigrate us are in campaign mode and want to use the Teamsters Union to demonize labor rights and be able to destroy them, if they become a government.

They want employers to be able to pay starvation wages to establish modern slavery.

Among these organized and permanent attacks that our organization suffers, is the unjust detention of two colleagues for exercising a legitimate union claim in San Nicolás.

It is unfortunate that most of these complaints are made by Deputies, Senators, Officials and Candidates of the Opposition who live peacefully because for more than 20 years we have been paying their salary with the taxes and contributions that all workers pay, and instead to fulfill their duties and even attend the few legislative sessions, with impunity, they continue to make complaints without any foundation and without assuming any responsibility or consequence.

It is striking that the City Government, through its Chief of Staff, Felipe Miguel, has enabled 911 to denounce us by creating a media circus with the sole purpose of obtaining political gain, but when they really have to fulfill their role by exercising control on contracts and tenders they do not do so, as, for example, has happened for years with the towing service in the city.

In addition, they criticize us and call us mafioso characters like Espert (Gorilla's ma) who instead of talking about us would have to worry about explaining his relationship with Federico Machado accused by the United States for his links to drug trafficking and money laundering. .

Surely they attack us because they are clear that one of the main limits for the total elimination of labor rights is the trucker workers.

It is true that our function is not to control food prices, but our predisposition to collaborate with the government in its fight against inflation and to guarantee a decent wage for our workers so that they can continue fulfilling the mission of supplying food will always be present. of food to the whole country.

We are unfairly attacked when we did nothing more than collaborate at the request of the Government, together with other union organizations, with the Secretary of Commerce, which is the only one that has the power to control prices.

Despite all the false denunciations and anti-union media campaigns, we will continue working so that our Country can move forward, inflation can be controlled and workers have enough income to live with the dignity they deserve.
