A German citizen was arrested in Iran on suspicion of taking photos of "sensitive oil installations" in Khuzestan province in the south of the country - this was reported today (Tuesday) in the Iranian Jam-e-Jam newspaper.
According to the report, he was arrested while taking pictures of one of the oil fields in the district, where an Arab minority lives.
The judicial authority in Iran has not yet commented on the report of the arrest, which comes days after the execution of former Deputy Defense Minister Ali Reza Akbari, who held British citizenship and was convicted of espionage.
Iran's relations with Western countries have deteriorated in recent times following their harsh criticism of the suppression of the hijab protests and the sanctions they imposed on parties involved in it.
Tehran accuses the Western countries, Israel and Saudi Arabia of fueling the protests that broke out following the death of the young Kurdish girl Mehsa Amini in the custody of the Mosar police in September.
Dozens of Iranians with dual citizenship have since been arrested by the regime.
