The police stated that the Traffic Department of Kowloon West Region carried out law enforcement operations in the area from January 11 to January 18 to crack down on "illegal racing", "illegal modified vehicles", "speeding", "drink driving" and "drug driving" and other crimes.
During the operation, officers arrested a total of 7 local men, 1 local woman and 1 foreign man, aged between 24 and 52. Among them, 1 man was suspected of "driving without a license", 1 man and 1 woman were suspected of "driving There was no third-party insurance at the time", 2 men were suspected of "drunk driving", and the remaining 3 men were wanted for unpaid fines.
During the operation for several days, officers of the Traffic Department of Kowloon West stopped and checked 885 vehicles and conducted random alcohol breath tests on the drivers.
In addition, officers found 19 suspected illegally modified private cars suspected of violating the Road Traffic (Construction and Maintenance of Vehicles) Regulations.
After investigation, the vehicle involved has been towed to the Kowloon Bay Vehicle Detention Center for further inspection.
Officers also issued defective vehicle reports to 13 other private car owners.
At the same time, officers set up digital radar and laser gun speed detection at various locations in the West Kowloon area, and detected a total of 591 vehicles speeding.
According to the police, the Kowloon West Regional Traffic Department will continue to strengthen law enforcement during the Lunar New Year period to combat illegal racing, illegally modified vehicles and other traffic violations, through strict traffic enforcement actions to ensure smooth roads, safeguard public safety and improve road safety for road users consciousness.
The police appeal to motorists not to defy the law.
