The Brandenburg CDU member of parliament Saskia Ludwig described the proposal of a climate researcher for emissions trading as "fascism in the green face". There was criticism online for this – her party also distanced herself.

What sensible climate protection policy looks like is hotly debated.

The Brandenburg CDU member of the state parliament, Saskia Ludwig, has now made such a mistake with the choice of words that her own party is distancing herself.

The economic politician had written on Twitter in response to a forwarded quote from the Potsdam climate researcher Hans Joachim Schellnhuber, among other things: "Fascism in the green face!

This makes it clear what these eco-fascists actually want.” Ludwig then deleted the tweet, but she couldn’t get rid of the statement.

Brandenburg's CDU General Secretary Gordon Hoffmann differed from the choice of words.

"That is not the position of the CDU-Brandenburg," he told the "Märkische Oderzeitung".

In the climate debate, either only the security of supply with energy or only the climate is looked at.

“We have to think things through more together.

Against this background, the choice of words is inappropriate,” said Hoffmann.

»History-forgotten derailment«

Climate researcher Schnellnhuber had suggested that each person should only be allowed to consume three tons of Co2 per year - a higher requirement would have to be purchased.

The Greens, one of the coalition partners of the CDU in Brandenburg, were irritated by Ludwig's statement.

»Prof.

Schellnhuber's proposal may polarize, but Saskia Ludwig's history-forgotten derailment is a disgusting attempt to provoke and to fish on the outer right edge without thinking about the victims of fascism," wrote Green Party leader Julia Schmidt on Twitter.

Ludwig justified the deletion of her tweet on Tuesday as follows: "I deleted the tweet on the CO₂ budget for private individuals because the choice of words could be misinterpreted and thus no objective discussion of the content is possible." But she thinks the idea is the wrong way.

Ludwig sat in the Bundestag for the CDU until the end of the 2021 legislative period.
