Students against the Ministry of Education: "Matriculation in mathematics - a spit in the face of the examinees" | Israel today

2023-01-18T18:46:30.870Z

Some of the students claim that the questionnaire was too long, and that the questions did not correspond to the time allotted for them in the exam • The teachers also presented similar claims: "Those who wrote this exam are disconnected from the students, they should be ashamed"

"Whoever wrote the exam is cut off from the students":

The students claim that some of the questions were particularly difficult and other students complained about particularly long questions, and the time given to them was not enough to solve them all.

Some of the students even decided to take an initiative and sent a letter to the supervisor of mathematics, Narit Katz.

Yonatan (17), a 12th grade student from Kiryat Gat who took the exam at the five unit level, said: "I prepared thoroughly for matriculation. For five months I have been practicing math daily and passed on a shield of 100. I came to the test and my eyes darkened to discover the main problem, which is the shocking length of the questions. One of the questions (number 3) was, by all accounts, difficult and was not similar to it in past exams."

He claims that the Ministry of Education manipulated the students: "The Ministry of Education knew that the majority of students in Israel would approach this question because of the convenient focus left over from the Corona dates and ended in the winter of 23 and probably because of this he decided to write a difficult, long question, which does not at all correspond to the time given for each question (45 minutes) ). As a student, I feel that this exam is like a 'spit in the face' for all the effort I've invested in the last few months."

The student Shiri Val, a 12th grader who also took the same exam, said: "There were questions that could not be solved fairly. The question in geometry, a field I love, was long and frustrating. The question involved a lot of auxiliary constructions, a lot of large drawing and a mess for the eyes even if you were a teacher They cannot solve if they were faced with the pressure we were under during the matriculation exam. It took me an hour and a half to solve the question, in a field I really like and am good at. In addition, the other questions were also long and exhausting."

A high school teacher who teaches mathematics also admitted: "There were many questions that were reasonable, some of them may have required in-depth thinking, but according to the groups of teachers, one of the questionnaires of the exam in three study units was particularly difficult and so was one of the questionnaires in five study units - at the most difficult level."

"Those who wrote the math exam should be ashamed, they are totally disconnected from the students. Even teachers who give math would not be able to solve the exam in such a time. It's a shame that no one hears the voice of the students."

Says Oved Lev Ari, a veteran math teacher and owner of a YouTube channel for matriculation preparation: "In recent years, they write a very long matriculation exam, during Corona they gave extra time and in response to that, long questions. Now the extra time has decreased, but the questions remain long. Even a very good student finishes the exam on the scale Second, there is a problem with the level of difficulty. The students learn from old books, but the matriculation also includes elements of thinking and analysis that a student is not necessarily exposed to in class or in re-test exams."
