Only 5% of complaints about sexual harassment in the Shin Bet, the police and the IDF are forwarded to the prosecutor's office for the purpose of considering the filing of an indictment - this is according to data that will be revealed today by the State Audit Committee, which will discuss the issue together with the Committee on the Status of Women.

The discussion, which is being held under the title "Soldiers are protected from sexual abuse following the Gilboa prison incident", will be attended by representatives of the Shevast Police, the police and the IDF, as well as women's and society organizations.

The discussion will take place against the background of the publication of the State Comptroller's report last month, which made harsh findings regarding the protection of IDF female soldiers serving in security agencies such as the Israel Defense Forces and the police.

The data, which will be published by the Knesset Research and Information Center, shows that between 2018 and 2021, 137 complaints about sexual harassment were filed.

93 percent of the complaints were filed by women, the absolute majority, 84 percent, against officers or permanent personnel of various ranks in the Security Service.

According to the report, half of the harassment was verbal, 36% physical, and 13% was defined as workplace harassment, which includes discourse, language, jokes of a sexual nature, and more.

One percent of the harassment was defined as an invasion of privacy.

From the results of the handling of harassment, it was found that 46% of the complaints were handled with a disciplinary response, 21% finished their service, 17% were handled with an explanatory response and only 5% went to the attorney's office.

Also, a few percent of the cases ended with a lack of cooperation on the part of the complainants.

It was also stated in the report that they do not have any information about the continuation of the criminal proceedings and the expectation is that the professional parties will be required to answer this at the committee's hearing this morning.

MK Panina Tamno-Sheta, the chairperson of the Committee for the Advancement of the Status of Women, commented on the report: "We will not tolerate a situation where every fourth maid in duty will be sexually harmed or harassed during her service. Unfortunately, as the report reveals, most of the victims are in mandatory service, which indicates exploitation Young Gilan. Our goal is to increase supervision, enforcement, deterrence and punishment of offenders so that the numbers in future studies will be reduced to zero and women will be protected and safe. The discussion is an important discussion and therefore we will hold it jointly with the State Audit Committee."
