The fools are back

2023-01-18T15:23:00.287Z

Only a few more days until the Gmunder Seegeister get-together officially starts the carnival season. After two years of the Corona forced break, the anticipation of the foolish goings-on is particularly great this time. "We are full of euphoria," says President Florian Gradl (34).

Only a few days left, then the Gmunder Seegeister will officially start the carnival season with their children's guard meeting.

After two years of the compulsory Corona break, the anticipation of the foolish goings-on is particularly great this time.

"We are full of euphoria," says President Florian Gradl (34).

Gmund – The disappointment of the past season seems over.

At the beginning of 2022, the Seegeister from Gmund had finally put all their activities on hold due to the pandemic - the carnival fell flat for the second time in a row.

Those responsible for the carnival society then kept silent for a year - both the names of the princely couples and the motto remained under lock and key and were "saved" for the new season (we reported).

After the enthronement in November, the Guards and the Highnesses can finally start the carnival again this year.

The first official date is on Saturday, January 21st: In the Rottacher Seeforum, the Seegeister are organizing their traditional Kindergarde meeting from 11:30 a.m. (admission: from 11 a.m.).

"There are 15 Guards coming from all over the Oberland," announced Gradl.

The president - successor to the long-time chief fool Bernd Ettenreich - had to get the carnival going again together with his club colleagues after a two-year Corona break.

"Now we're almost back to where we want to be," says Gradl.

The diary of the Garden and Princes, who this time have given their appearances under the motto "Après Ski", is well filled.

"The demand is there," reports Gradl.

Guest performances by the Seegeister are also in demand again in retirement homes, where strict corona requirements were still the order of the day.

“And we are pleased that we can come,” explains the President.

In addition, the sea spirits will be guests with their Prince Wacki I. and Princess Sabrina I. at various partner guards, appear at carnival parties in the region and perform their dances in the open air on some dates.

On February 11th, for example, the sea spirits can be seen at the Weibanasching in Schaftlach, on February 18th at the carnival party at Gut Kaltenbrunn, and on February 20th at the children's carnival of Sportfreunde Gmund in Oberstöger.

The end of the road has probably not been reached - "there can still be a lot to come," says the President.

Especially on the days of Mardi Gras, when the fifth season of the year is approaching its climax, things are happening in quick succession for the sea spirits.

"On Shrove Monday alone we have eight performances - it's all around the lake," says Gradl.

The fools will report back from the Corona break on Carnival Sunday (February 19) in a particularly striking and loud manner: Then the carnival procession in Kreuth, which was postponed last year, will start at 1.13 p.m. - of course with the participation of the sea spirits.

There will be a final rearing of the fools on Shrove Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Kehraus in the Gasthof Oberstöger.

Incidentally, the carnival is also returning to other traditional venues: the Bräustüberl in Tegernsee is again organizing its legendary women's carnival on February 16th, the Nonsensical Thursday, from 9 a.m.

As early as 9 a.m., the foolish crowd will storm the vaults and bars of the Bierschwemme.

Gradl is confident that carnival will experience a new upswing this year after the cancellations of the past few years.

You could already see that at the start in November.

"There were so many people at the enthronement that we had to piece together the tables in the hall," says the 34-year-old.

The people had already shown clearly "that they want to get out again and also stand behind their club".
