The Dutch car manufacturer Lightyear presented at the CES 2023 auto show held in Nevada, USA, a new model of an electric-solar car that can provide the daily commute of many customers from charging with the help of the sun alone.
Lightyear began producing solar vehicles a few years ago, producing the Lightyear-0 and Lightyear-1 in a small run of a few thousand cars.
Now the company has announced that it has already received 20,000 orders for the first serial production vehicle, Lightyear-2.
The company intends to produce about 200,000 cars a year until 2026.
It is also possible without a socket.

Lightyear's car is built from solar cells with new technology, which are integrated into the body of the vehicle - from the tail to the nose.
The solar cells charge the vehicle's battery, and according to the company's statement, they can provide enough electricity for a trip of about 70 kilometers - under the weather conditions of the Netherlands, which is usually cloudy.
In tests conducted for Lightyear's previous models in sunny Spain, they were able to achieve a significantly higher charge level than that achieved in the Netherlands.
Therefore, theoretically the new model Lightyear-2 could travel over 120 kilometers a day in a country like Israel - if only it were in the sun.

Lightyear stated at the show that its goal is to make the car accessible in terms of price, which is expected to be only 40,000 euros.
For this reason the car will be produced in only one model and in only one color.
Unfortunately, at this time, Lightyear has no intention of exporting the car outside of Europe.
