Irina Shakirov was extradited to Israel from Georgia only about two weeks ago, at the end of four years in which she was wanted for interrogation. Despite this, and despite her parents' concerns, she was released to house arrest on a personal bond of only five thousand shekels. The District Court in Haifa yesterday (Monday) ordered the release of the nanny Irena Shakirov from Neve Prison to be placed under house arrest.

This, despite the fact that only two weeks ago she was extradited to Israel with great efforts by the international department of the state attorney's office, after for four years she was wanted for investigation in Israel, on suspicion of abusing toddlers at the kindergarten she ran in the Carmel Castle.

In doing so, Judge Nitzan Silman agreed to the arguments of the lawyer Kobi Margolov, who represents her.

Until the end of the legal proceedings, she will remain under house arrest at her friend's house in one of the suburbs of Haifa, against a self-guarantee of only five thousand shekels, to ensure her attendance at the hearings.

She and her supervisors were required to sign a commitment of one hundred thousand shekels to guarantee the conditions of release.

The parents of the toddlers, represented by lawyer Roy Keren and the prosecutor's office itself, tried to prevent her release to house arrest. "We are afraid of escapes," the prosecutors, Non-Zoavi and Ofir Levantal, told the court time and time again. "This outrages me as a defense attorney," said her lawyer, "I turned to the Haifa District Attorney's Office to receive all the messages they allegedly sent to her and I was refused by the prosecutor who told me that these are not investigative materials."

Judge Silman mentioned that running away does not appear at all among the charges attributed to the nanny, who left the country without the police requesting a delay in her departure, even after attorney Roi Keren warned that she was about to leave the country, and that even though she left the country in August 2018, the prosecutor's office issued an international arrest warrant Against her only in September 2019. The attorney's office representative tried to convince the court that "a person who was interrogated for the sixth time and had a confrontation should know that an investigation will be required and an indictment will be filed against him", but Judge Nitzan Silman was not convinced.

Irina Shakirov, a 37-year-old citizen of Israel, remains free even though the investigation into the affair began in 2018. The police did not request an order preventing her from leaving the country and she fled to Uzbekistan - which does not have an extradition agreement with Israel.

However, after 4 years, in May of last year, when she landed at the Tbilisi airport for a visit to Georgia, the state respected Interpol's request from Israel and signed the extradition order, and two weeks ago she was returned to Israel and transferred to the Carmel Castle station, which completed the five-year investigation in a two-day lightning-quick procedure.
