The Russian Foreign Minister is once again taking advantage of the Holocaust: "The West is looking for a 'final solution' to the Russian question" | Israel today

The Russian Foreign Minister again returns to the Jewish question: at the press conference he held today, Sergey Lavrov said that just as Hitler wanted to implement the final solution for the Jews, so, according to him, the West is trying to solve what he defined as "the Russian question".

"Just as Napoleon mobilized almost all of Europe against the Russian Empire, and just as Hitler mobilized and conquered and opposed the Soviet Union, so the United States built a coalition of almost all European countries that are members of NATO and members of the European Union, with the same goal - a final solution to the 'Russian Question' Lavrov said.

According to him, "As Hitler sought to finally solve the 'Jewish question', now - if you read the Western politicians - not only from Poland or the Baltic countries, but also more sane ones - they directly say that Russia must suffer a strategic defeat."

This is not the first time that Lavrov has been asked about the "Jewish question".

During the spring, he compared Zelensky to Hitler and claimed that the Nazi tyrant "had Jewish roots" - this was to reinforce the Russian narrative about the "Nazi regime" in Kiev.

So Israel summoned the Russian ambassador to investigate, but later - at least according to a statement from the office of Prime Minister Bennett at the time - Putin expressed an apology.

Another problem is the very comparison of Russia to the Jews in the Holocaust: considering that it was Russia that invaded Ukraine in violation of its sovereignty and international law, the comparison assumes that the Jews were the ones who attacked the Third Reich.

Moreover, Lavrov's historical discussion is not related to the facts but to the narrative built in Russia around the eternal victimhood.

Thus, for example, in Napoleon's army that invaded Russia there were indeed members of various European nations, some of whom fought alongside him because they were conquered and others out of gratitude for regaining their independence (the Poles, for example);

Hitler did conquer most of continental Europe, but before 1941 he was an ally of Stalin and the two even cooperated in the elimination of Poland;

Whereas the USA was the main supplier of equipment, weapons and raw materials to the USSR in billions of dollars, without which the Red Army would not have been able to fight.
