The traditional Syrian costumes and the ancient Damascene houses were the title of the symposium hosted by the Arab Cultural Center in Kafr Soussa today, and it was titled “Yasmin Ateeq” with the participation of a number of specialized researchers.
Heritage researcher Yasmine Al-Ainyeh explained that folkloric costumes, in their various forms and colors, are transmitted from one generation to the next to form the heritage stock for successive generations, despite the decline or decay of the original form of costumes in some cases.
The researcher presented a set of proposals and recommendations to revive the Syrian heritage of costumes, the most important of which is holding exhibitions on a regular basis, working to revive a heritage day for the Syrian traditional costume, and including these topics in the Syrian curriculum, in addition to facilitating access to information on heritage from people and heritage-related authorities, and encouraging handicrafts.
As for the researcher Anas Tello, who is interested in the Damascene heritage and who elaborated on the description of the Damascene house in all its details, he explained that the title of the symposium came from the words of the poet Nizar Qabbani, “Do you know what it means for a person to live in a bottle of perfume?” pointing out that all that we see in the Damascene house of decorations, inscriptions and architecture Arabic, but it was designed for one goal, which is to reach the comfort of the human soul.
