"I don't think the angle chosen is beneficial": director Andréa Bescond protests against L'Affaire d'Outreau on France 2

On TV5 Monde, the director of the film released in 2018 Les Chatouilles, dealing with pedophilia, considered that the documentary series "discredits the word of the child".

Tuesday evening, France 2 launched

L'Affaire d'Outreau

.

This documentary series between cinema and theater, signed Agnès Pizzini and Olivier Ayache-Vidal, recounts the trials of 2004 and 2005 at the end of which four adults were convicted of pedophilia out of twelve children.

The judgment caused a stir at the time because it also led to the wrongful prosecution of thirteen innocent people.

Some of them have spent several years in prison.

Received on Tuesday January 17 by Patrick Simonin in "L'Invité" on TV5 Monde, Andréa Bescond shared her opinion on the documentary series.

“In France, as soon as there is an opportunity to discredit the word of the child, we seize it

,” said the actress and director of Les

Chatouilles

, herself a victim of sexual violence during her childhood.

Andréa Bescond, who has testified to her history in theater and cinema, sees a bias in the France 2 program.

“In this series, the Outreau affair is present as THE great fiasco.

Yes, of course, but children have been raped.

So by whom?

There are still dozens of victims and about fifty children whose complaints have been dismissed.

Who raped them?

, she asked before assuring that

“the real fiasco was that there was no justice for these victims”

.

"

We didn't need this huge retrospective

 "

Andrea Bescond

Winner of a Molière then a César for her two versions of Les

Chatouilles,

the 43-year-old director attacks the angle chosen by the public service channel.

“If it is that of a legal fiasco and lies lavished by children, I do not think that it is beneficial, on the contrary”

, estimated Andréa Bescond before regretting the paradox where

“we encourage the child to express themselves on the facts of incest or rape that he or she may suffer, to finally accuse him of lying, of being manipulated, of not telling the truth”

.

France Televisions responds

To the question of the host of TV5 Monde who asked her if

“this series hurts”

, the actress answered bluntly:

“In 2023, we do not need to do this huge retrospective around the case. d'Outreau"

, she said before recalling that

"since 2005, we have 40% fewer convictions for sexual violence in France"

.

Patrick Simonin then insisted on the objective of this documentary series by re-reading the slogan:

“There is no worse suffering than injustice”.

Andréa Bescond retorted that it was necessary above all to think of

“the injustice suffered by all these children”

.

“They were mistreated in the middle of the trial.

Their word was totally flouted.

I think of them today

,” she concluded.

For its part, France Télévisions reacted to our colleagues from

Puremédias.

"For the first time, a series on the Outreau affair gives a voice to all the victims: children and innocent defendants"

, proclaimed the public service group which recalled

"being invested and committed for many years in the fight against all forms of violence against children

.

The series collected the testimonies of four of the thirteen people acquitted in 2005 but also of Jonathan Delay, one of the four children of the Badaoui-Delay couple.

For the launch of

L'Affaire d'Outreau

, 3.13 million viewers followed the first two episodes broadcast on Tuesday.

Next week, the continuation and end of the series will be followed by a debate moderated by Julian Bugier.
