As-Suwayda - SANA

The Directorate of Agriculture in As-Suwayda rented 2,500 olive saplings from the Damascus Countryside Governorate, to complete the provision of farmers' needs for them for the current season.

The head of the plant production department in the directorate, Eng. Akram Saray al-Din, stated in a statement to SANA reporter that the rented seedlings are of the Sorani variety and are being sold within the Kom al-Hassil and Nimrat Shahba centers, at prices of 2,500 pounds per plant and at a reduced rate than the prices approved for sale in private nurseries.

Saray al-Din pointed out that the process of renting took place after the sale of all the olive-producing seedlings in the directorate's agricultural centers, amounting to about 9,200 seedlings of the two varieties, al-Qaisi and al-Sourani.

And the head of the Plant Production Department indicated that the sale is a maximum of 25 seedlings per farmer, based on the sensory detection document that he gets from the extension units close to his area, advising the farmers to irrigate the plants well, especially since the land is dry as a result of the delay in rainfall for the current season.

The total area planted with olive trees in the governorate is 9984 hectares.
