A second hiding place for Italy's most wanted mobster, Matteo Messina Denaro, has been discovered behind a wardrobe with a movable bottom, Italian police have announced.

The armed bunker that was exposed is in the house about 300 meters away from the first hiding place of the mafia leader in the city of Campobello di Mezzara in Sicily, according to a report by the BBC network.

Messina Denaro was arrested on Tuesday at a private clinic in the Sicilian capital Palermo, where he underwent cancer treatments under the pseudonym Andrea Bonfidi.

The police tried to capture him for 30 years, but he managed to elude the authorities - until this week.

The fake name aroused the suspicion of the police when they realized that it was the name of the brother of the mafia boss Leonardo Bonfidi, who passed away.

Phone mapping carried out by the police showed that the real Bonfidi's cell phone was not found in Palermo in 2020-2021, when the same person used his name in his visits to the clinic.

More details about Messina Denaro's lifestyle began to emerge after his arrest.

Among other things, it was revealed that he lived in a modest house in Campobello di Mezzara, which is 116 kilometers from Palermo and only eight kilometers from Messina Denaro's hometown of Castelvetrano. A neighbor told an Italian TV anchor that he had seen him many times, and the two used to greet each other when they met.

The police She did not find weapons in the first hiding place, according to initial reports, but she did find, in the name of luxury, expensive furniture, designer clothes, shoes and jewelry, as well as receipts from luxury restaurants and pills to strengthen the strength of the man.
