The Dachauer Förderverein Wasserturm draws a positive balance of the year 2022 and is now looking forward to its 25th anniversary.

There will be a big exhibition about it in the fall.

Dachau

– Culture enthusiasts can look forward to seven exhibitions, a concert, the long night of open galleries, city tours, song recitals and a big anniversary celebration in the Dachau water tower.

Secretary Gerhard Niedermair gives an outlook and also takes stock of the past year, with which the association is very satisfied.

The water tower closed last year with the joint exhibition “Auszeit”, in which 25 artists took part.

"It was a brilliant end of the year with great visitor interest, a finissage with three bands and three works bought by the city," says Niedermair.

The association can also look back on many good exhibitions and many visitors.

"Personally, I was particularly pleased that many artists, such as the Klus artist collective or the artists Lore Galitz and Verena Friedrich, included the tower architecture in their works," says the secretary.

The artists are happy too.

“We received consistently positive feedback.

There was a lot of praise for the tower, the new lighting on the second floor and our support,” says Niedermair happily.

The association was able to welcome about seven new members - mainly from the ranks of the artists.

According to the secretary, the association thus has “its highest membership record for a long time”.

Club treasury should be filled with auctions

The preview of the works for the auction during the Long Night of Open Galleries and Museums has proven itself, which is why it will be repeated this year.

"In this way we hope to be able to successfully replenish our club coffers," explains Niedermair.

The general meeting confirmed the previous board, so everything stays the same here.

With all the good things, there is a point of disappointment: "Now that the tower is owned by the city of Dachau, we were secretly hoping for progress on an elevator, but apparently that's not on the agenda based on current knowledge." Certainly, the association suspects that there is a lack of money for the long-awaited lift.

2023 is a big year for the club as it celebrates its 25th anniversary.

An exhibition with old posters and historical photographs, a commemorative publication and much more is planned for autumn.

"The working group will set up a great supporting program here," he promises.

The regular exhibition program with seven exhibitions starts in April, when the temperatures make the stay in the tower more pleasant again.

Niedermair announces a mixture of solo exhibitions and artist groups.

"There are a lot of young artists here this year," he says.

Especially in the north and west of Munich, the good reputation and the beautiful rooms of the tower are getting around.

But: "We also have to struggle with the electricity prices, which we, like many others, now had to raise because we are normal customers of the public utility company," explains Niedermair.

Even if the electricity costs for exhibiting artists are rising, the basic fee for each exhibition weekend has not been increased on purpose.

All dates will be available successively from March on the website https://www.dachauerwasserturm.de/.

The flyers with the annual program are distributed in Dachau, the invitations are sent electronically.
