Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov confirmed that the West has turned Ukraine into a launching pad for subversive activities against Russia, and has failed in its efforts to undermine the economy and political stability in Russia and Belarus.

Lavrov said during a press conference today with his Belarusian counterpart, Sergey Aleinik, in Minsk today: “There are continuous attempts to interfere in the internal affairs of our two countries by the West, including by taking unilateral and illegal restrictive measures, and imposing restrictions aimed at undermining the economy and internal political conditions. Washington and the European bureaucrats do not hesitate to state this publicly.

Lavrov pointed out that the West insisted on expanding the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) eastward, and bringing its military infrastructure closer to Russia's borders, which is considered a violation of its obligations. He also took advantage of the Minsk agreements in order to buy time to prepare for war, considering that the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe is deviating. It deviates from the principles and foundations for which it was laid down in Helsinki.

Regarding the Russian military operation to protect the population of Donbass, Lavrov said: “We are investigating information we obtained about some OSCE employees helping Kyiv to prepare for operations against civilians,” noting that Minsk and Moscow agree that the OSCE is going through a crisis as a system.

Lavrov pointed out that Western countries are pushing Kyiv to launch threats directly against us, but we are ready to deal with any external threats that jointly affect both Russia and Belarus.

On the other hand, Lavrov stated that he discussed with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko all strategic directions to deepen bilateral cooperation between the two countries, including in the areas of security, economy and defense, indicating that Moscow and Minsk signed a memorandum on strengthening the security of Russia and Belarus, and reducing the threats facing the two countries from third countries.

For his part, Aleinik stressed that the illegal pressures on Russia and Belarus require more Russian-Belarusian coordination to determine response steps, as the West launched a hybrid war against the two countries with the aim of weakening them.

On the bilateral cooperation between the two countries, Alinik praised the bilateral relations, which were greatly strengthened last year and will continue to do so, noting that the trade exchange between the two countries reached a record high of $50 billion.
