Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko confirmed that the results of economic development and trade cooperation between Russia and Belarus in 2022 indicate that Western attempts to stifle the two countries have completely failed.

Sputnik quoted Lukashenko as saying today at the start of his talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Minsk: “Attempts to strangle Russia and Belarus have already failed, and we have identified the directions in which we must move in order to preserve the sovereignty of our two countries in all respects.”

Lukashenko indicated that he was well acquainted with the results of the year with regard to economic development in Russia, stressing that Belarus had almost the same results, also expressing his satisfaction with the results of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries during the past year despite the external sanctions.

Lukashenko made it clear that Russia has never been against the world in Ukraine, and it is aware of the plans of the West, not just Ukraine, pointing out that they are trying to use Ukraine against Belarus as well.

For his part, Lavrov announced that Moscow and Minsk are ready for any developments in the field of defense, and said: The agreements between the presidents of the two countries in the field of defense and military-technical cooperation came at the right time in terms of ensuring the countries' readiness for "any scenarios."

Referring to Russia's own military operation in Ukraine, Lavrov said: "We and our Belarusian friends are taking all necessary measures to protect ourselves from possible encroachments from your western neighbors."
