During her wishes on Wednesday evening, the president of the Ile-de-France region demanded "100% guaranteed service at peak times" during

“Unacceptable”.

Wednesday evening during her vows, on the eve of the strike movement against pension reform, Valérie Pécresse (LR) called for a revision of the legislation on minimum service in transport.

“On the eve of a new day of hardship for all Ile-de-France residents in transport, on lines which have been undermined for several months by latent social movements, I say this forcefully, the freedom of some ends where that begins. others.

Strikers have rights.

Travelers too, ”she said at the headquarters of the Ile-de-France Region, in Saint-Ouen (Seine-Saint-Denis).

This Thursday, January 19, the RER, metro and Transilien networks are almost at a standstill.

“Unfortunately, we know, (Editor’s note: this Thursday) the minimum service will not be provided in Ile-de-France transport.

This is unacceptable, and I ask parliament to initiate the rewriting of the law on minimum service and to finally vote for 100% guaranteed service in transport during peak hours.

This exists in other countries”.

We know that tomorrow the minimum service will not be respected.

This is unacceptable.

We must react.

I ask Parliament to initiate the rewriting of the minimum service law.

And to impose, finally, as exists elsewhere, 100% guaranteed service at peak times.

The text adopted under the presidency of Nicolas Sarkozy, in 2007, obliges the striking agents to declare themselves 48 hours in advance, in order to communicate a “transport plan” at the latest 24 hours before the disturbances.

On the other hand, there is no provision for "requisitions" to force employees to take up their position and ensure continuity of service.

The right to strike prevails.

In the case of Île-de-France, the “minimum service” is a simple contractual obligation requiring the RATP and the SNCF to run at least 50% of the trains during peak hours.

In the event of non-compliance, penalties are paid to Île-de-France Mobilités, the authority in charge of transport chaired by Valérie Pécresse.

Environmentalists react

The speech of the president of the region made her opponents react.

“One day of strike to defend our rights is ultimately nothing compared to the 364 days of hardship in public transport that you have been allowing to continue for months”, writes David Belliard (EELV), the assistant to the Paris transport.

MEP David Cormand (EELV) also replied: “Start by ensuring that 100% of the service in public transport under your responsibility is guaranteed outside of strike days… That will already be quite a lot”.

Last Friday, Île-de-France Mobilités had summoned the leaders of the RATP and the SNCF to present a plan to restore the service, after months of deterioration.
