Nicaragua: the martyrdom of the family of the opponent in exile, Javier Alvarez

STORY – The wife, daughter and son-in-law of the human rights activist, arrested in September 2022, were sentenced on Wednesday to 8 and 10 years in prison.


On Wednesday January 18, 2023, two Franco-Nicaraguan women were sentenced by a court in Managua for

“treason to the homeland”

,

“attack on national sovereignty”,

and

“dissemination of false news”

.

Jaennine Horvilleur Cuadra, 63, and her daughter, Ana Alvarez Horvilleur, 43, will have to spend the next eight years in prison, according to the sentence which must be confirmed on January 26.

Ana's husband, Felix Roiz, 56, was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

The two women are relatives of Rabine Delphine Horvilleur.

The fault of the convicts?

Being the wife, daughter and son-in-law of Javier Alvarez, a human rights activist who opposes the dictatorial regime of the couple Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, who has held the country with a ruthless hand since January 10 2007.
