Given the extent of the damage, the human toll, which does not report any injuries, is almost a miracle.
On Wednesday, around 6:30 p.m., a strong explosion occurred in a three-storey building located rue du Menhir in Saint-Nazaire (Loire-Atlantique).
It literally blew off the roof of the building, a good part of the debris, including the framework, landed in the street and on cars parked there below.
Again without hurting anyone.

The explosion also caused a fire on the top floor of this small apartment building.
It would have been triggered in an unoccupied apartment.
In the adjoining apartment, the neighbor who was at home at the time of the explosion escaped unscathed.
“Uninhabitable” housing
More than thirty firefighters intervened to put out the flames and then carry out a
"structural reconnaissance"
of the site.
“The accommodations are uninhabitable until further notice for the eight people living in the building”
, indicates the departmental operational center for fire and rescue (Codis).
The neighboring buildings were not damaged.

For now, the origin of the explosion remains unknown.
The hypothesis of a gas leak is preferred.
It must be confirmed by an investigation which is in progress.
This Thursday morning, the rue du Menhir is closed to traffic the time to evacuate the numerous structural debris and pieces of insulation, part of which has flown into the neighboring streets, which litter the road in front of the building.
