The Netanyahu government will continue its previous policy: Foreign Minister Cohen spoke with his Ukrainian counterpart Israel today

2023-01-19T16:53:03.786Z

The two discussed the continuation of humanitarian aid to Ukraine, with an emphasis on the restoration of the energy infrastructure • Cohen called on Kolba to support the declaration of the Iranian armed forces as a terrorist organization

The current government will continue the previous government's policy regarding the war in Ukraine:

Foreign Minister Eli Cohen spoke today (Thursday) with his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kolba, and said that "Israel's policy of condemning the initial invasion was in the past and has not changed."

However, Cohen avoided explicit and sharp condemnation of Russia as his predecessor in the position, Yair Lapid, did.

On top of that, Cohen informed his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kolba about the return of the Israeli embassy in Kiev to full activity within 60 days.

During the war, the embassy moved to the city of Lviv, and some consular services were returned to Kyiv in June.

Cohen also promised to continue the humanitarian aid with an emphasis on the restoration of the energy infrastructure and called on his colleague to cooperate in the fight against the Revolutionary Guards, while aiming to declare it a terrorist organization among European countries.

At the beginning of the conversation, Foreign Minister Cohen expressed his deepest condolences for the helicopter disaster that happened yesterday in Kiev, in which the Ukrainian Interior Minister, his deputy and several children were killed.

Against the background of the fact that Iranian weapons are killing innocent Ukrainian citizens, Minister Cohen suggested to his Ukrainian counterpart to join the fight against the Revolutionary Guards in a way that would encourage European countries to declare them a terrorist organization.

As mentioned, Minister Cohen promised that Israel will continue to support the Ukrainian people with humanitarian aid, building and restoring infrastructure in the fields of water, energy, medical equipment and continuing to provide training to hundreds of professionals in emergency management and trauma care.

Foreign Minister Cohen told his colleague that just last month, Israel transferred generators to the city of Kherson to Ukraine, and that the Israeli embassy in Kyiv established a 'resilience point' in the center of Kyiv in order to help the city's residents who are dealing with multiple power outages.
