The New York Times revealed that the administration of President Joe Biden is preparing to assist the Ukrainian regime in targeting and attacking the Republic of Crimea, ignoring the seriousness of such a step and the escalation of tension in the region that will follow.
According to several US officials who spoke to the newspaper on condition of anonymity, despite defense officials in Washington and US administration officials questioning in private meetings the feasibility of Ukraine focusing its attack on the peninsula that includes Russian military bases, the Biden administration is considering this step. under the pretext that it (may strengthen Kyiv's position in any future negotiations with Moscow).
The newspaper pointed out that Washington, which was initially keen to hide its involvement in the war and behind it the countries of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), is now providing various types of advanced weapons to Kiev, to move from supplying it with Stingers and Javeline missiles to advanced missile systems and air defense systems (Patriot) and vehicles. The newspaper pointed out that US officials have been discussing with their Ukrainian counterparts for several months the possibility of Washington allowing Kiev to use the weapons it provided them, from HIMARS missile systems to Bradley combat vehicles, to target Russian forces’ control sites on a land bridge that is an important supply route, linking Crimea to Russia through the cities of the Russian Federation.
