Jacinda Ardern has governed New Zealand since October 2017. Her Labor Party was only the second strongest party in the elections, but together with New Zealand First Ardern formed a minority government tolerated by the Greens - Ardern became prime minister at the age of 37.

In April 2018 she met the then Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin.

Ardern was only the second elected head of government in a country to have a child during her tenure.
