A Greenlandic cold was noted this Friday morning in the Jura.
Some - 36.4 ° C were recorded in the Black Combe, a vast steep clearing located in the village of Mignovillard, in the east of the country, reports the amateur site Météo Franc-Comtoise, created by a young man passionate about weather.
This extreme temperature was measured by the weather probe of Localsat, a Swiss meteorological research group.
“We have to go back eleven years, on February 6, 2012 (the last cold snap) to find it so cold with -41.6 ° C that morning / Localsat measurements”, specifies on its Facebook page Météo Franc-Comtoise.
Until -36.4°C in the Combe Noire de Mignovillard (39) this morning!🤯 We have to go back to 06.02.2012 to find + cold with -41.6°C that morning (Localsat measurements).
The group also recorded -26.9°C today at Chauvins (39) and -27.8°C at Prés de la Rixouse (39).

While a winter cold has been affecting France since Tuesday, Météo France was not able, this Friday evening, to confirm whether this temperature observed in the Black Combe was reliable.
"We do not know the geographical characteristics and recordings of the Localsat stations", explains the French organization, which recalls that the Black Combe has also "already made the front page of the newspapers because it is reputed to be very cold".
-18.6°C in Mouthe
The nearest Météo France station is located in Mouthe, in the Doubs, about ten kilometers from Mignovillard and at an altitude of 940 m.
It is reputed to be the coldest station in all of France - the absolute record of -36.7°C was recorded there on January 13, 1968. -18.6°C were reached there this Friday at 7 a.m. , indicates Meteo France.
Further south, in the high Alpine valleys, the night was also freezing, with temperatures below -20 ° C, underlines on Twitter Gaétan Heymes, forecasting engineer at Météo France, citing in particular “-24.3 ° C in Tignes (monthly record), -24.1°C in Villar d'Arene and -22.5°C in Bessans”.
“In mid-mountain valleys, it is often the coldest night since February 28, 2018: -16.3°C in Chamonix (-17.6°C on February 28, 2018) -13.0°C in Bourg Saint Maurice,” he adds.
Mass of very cold air at altitude, clear night and ground covered with #fresh snow: the night was freezing (temperature below -20°C) in the high alpine valleys.

And the temperatures will continue to drop in the coming days.
“The strengthening of the anticyclone centered between the Azores and the Iberian Peninsula favors a flow from north to northeast over the country, which continues to supply us with cold air”, explains Météo France, which warns that “Saturday nights to Sunday and from Sunday to Monday are likely to be the coldest nights of the episode, with almost generalized frosts”.
