A 20-year-old man and his 18-year-old girlfriend were indicted and placed in pre-trial detention on Thursday for "
deadly blows
" on their two-month-old daughter, we learned from the Bayonne prosecutor's office on Friday.
After a call to the Samu from this couple residing in Hendaye (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), the baby was rushed to Bayonne hospital on Tuesday and then to the Bordeaux University Hospital because
of "his very critical condition
", explained the vice - Attorney Caroline Parizel.
The child died there on Wednesday evening.
In view of the hematomas, including one in the brain, and fractures on the baby's body, the parents were immediately placed in police custody in Bordeaux and then transferred to Bayonne.
Pretrial detention for the couple
Unknown to the police until then, they were indicted on Thursday for "
intentional violence resulting in death without intention to give
it" and placed in pre-trial detention.
The young woman was also indicted for failure to assist a person in danger.

The autopsy of the infant's body reports "
a violent death with the intervention of a third party
" and a "
non-accidental head trauma
", said the prosecution.
According to the deputy prosecutor Caroline Parizel, the father recognized "
at least involuntary gestures in the context of games or care
".
The investigation was entrusted to the judicial police of Bayonne.
