It is one of the largest development operations in France.

Covering 738 hectares in the municipalities of Bordeaux, Bègles and Floirac, Bordeaux Euratlantique is now halfway through, but many projects are still to be expected in the years to come.

Operation of national interest (OIN) since 2009, this pharaonic project aims to accommodate "

30,000 jobs while meeting the housing needs of 50,000 people

", by 2030.

After more than a decade of work on both banks of the Garonne, around a third of the operation has been marketed and partly delivered.

This represents 1.5 billion in investments in the territory

”, specifies the public planning establishment (EPA).

In 2022, two school groups and a middle school with 600 to 700 places were delivered, for example, as well as crèches offering 98 cradles.

On the employment side, Bordeaux Euratlantique gives the figures of 11,777 people in services in 2021, 2,324 in industry and construction, 1,712 in shops and 983 in hotels and restaurants.

The EPA also aims for 4,000 people to be employed by 2030 in building and development, “

or around 10% of jobs in the construction sector in Gironde

”.

The arrival of the Simone Veil bridge in 2024

Since the launch of the project, several major developments have been completed.

A first stage has been completed on the left bank of the Garonne: the Saint-Jean station has been modernized to accommodate the high-speed line in 2017, the House of Creative Economy and Culture (Méca) opened its doors in 2019 and a new crossing, the Pont de la Palombe, was inaugurated in 2022 near the station, “

to connect and open up

” the Armagnac and Amédée Saint-Germain districts.

On the right bank, many developments have also come out of the ground.

The Euratlantique project also aims to bring the two shores closer together.

This Friday, January 20, a symbolic event took place on the Garonne.

The metal framework of the Simone Veil bridge crossed the river, “

thus materializing for the first time the junction between the two banks

”.

This gigantic bridge between Bordeaux, Bègles and Floirac is long awaited.

After many adventures, its commissioning is finally scheduled for June 2024.

But before the inauguration of this eighth bridge over the Garonne at the Port de la Lune, the year 2023 will see the launch of a third and final concerted development zone (ZAC), Bègles-Garonne.

Several exchanges are planned with the inhabitants, with a view to the redevelopment of this district where 1,800 new housing units are expected.

Little by little, the project is taking shape on both sides of the river.

The Simone Veil bridge provides a pedestrian area, a two-way cycle path, 2x2 car traffic lanes and 2 bus lanes.
