As-Suwayda - SANA
A cultural experience in the field of theatrical directing, the mainstay of which is the puppet theater and the lyrical operetta. It was embodied by the director Ihab Al-Mathehawy for more than twenty years, during which he invested his academic studies as a graduate of the Faculty of Education with a specialization in psychology.
Al-Mathehawi, 53, said during his interview with SANA reporter in As-Suwayda: The passion for art has accompanied him since his childhood through his participation when he was a student in the elementary stage in the Folklore Ensemble in Al-Tadamon neighborhood in Damascus, and his attainment of leadership in playing in pioneer competitions on the percussion instrument at the level of Syria, until he was directed to the preparatory stage for acting. Theatrical performance and the appearance of the first performance at Al-Kawakibi Theater in Damascus, entitled (Samadoun), in the role of the child of the son of a martyr, which gave him greater motivation and encouragement for continuity.
And Al-Maithawy indicated that when he moved to secondary school to settle in As-Suwayda governorate, he participated with the Revolutionary Youth Union Organization in many theatrical works as an actor, until after obtaining a certificate from the Institute for Teachers Preparation, he began practicing directing work at the School of Pioneering Activities in the city of As-Suwayda, and directing lyrical operetta works and puppet theater for children. During the period between 2000 and 2006, he presented about 48 performances in several central Qatari festivals of the organization, in which he won first place in directing, in addition to establishing the Ishtar troupe as the first licensed theater troupe at the governorate level, as well as representing the Teachers Syndicate in 2000 at the Salamiyah Theater Festival with a show It was written and directed by him under the title (In my palms of balance), and in it he won the award for best director.
Al-Muhathawi, who has been affiliated with the Syrian Artists Syndicate since 2006, stated that he worked during his tenure as a member of the Theater and Music Bureau in the Al-Tala’i branch in the governorate from 2008 until 2013, to pay attention to many promising artistic talents, and during his tenure as a member of the Council of the Southern Region Artists Syndicate branch between 2014 and 2019, he presented work In favor of the Central Syndicate, written and directed by him under the title (The Powerful), leading to his contribution years ago to establishing a pulse troupe to take care of musical and theatrical talents, and to present performances through it on the theaters of the Directorates of Education and Culture in As-Suwayda.
The director, Al-Mathehawi, indicated that he had gone since last year to experiment in directing short films, as he directed a film entitled (The Imaginary Line), in which he dealt with the psychological state of corona patients and presented it on social media, indicating that he is currently preparing to direct two new short films, the first entitled (Taboo) and the second ( Philip 23).
