Ewald Zechner is the new host for the Maisacher Festival Week.

The folk festival, which the 45-year-old wants to revitalize with a new concept, will take place earlier, this year from July 14th to 23rd.

Maisach – Ewald Zechner, host of the large tent at the Dachau folk festival since 2014, wants to reform the Maisach festival week.

He is planning a mixture of tradition and innovation.

So there should be space for local clubs and performance opportunities for music groups from Maisache, and the senior citizens' afternoon is not up for debate either.

Overall, however, it needs a renewal – and more sales.

Therefore, the new landlord has a request: "Maisach has to drink more." So far, the beverage sales have been below average.

That doesn't mean that everyone should get drunk, there are also cyclists, non-alcoholic beverages and lemonade.

With beer garden

Zechner lures with a folk festival beer garden.

Visitors will be seated in a green area that is mostly covered but open to the side.

This creates a happy and friendly atmosphere.

He also wants to "pull the youth in," he says.

That works with party bands.

This concept is also successful in Dachau.

All in all, more and other bands are needed.

But there should also be evenings for the older audience.

He doesn't see any noise problems from music in the open tent.

This is easy to control with today's technology.

The trained chef, who also worked in top gastronomy, comes from Carinthia but has lived in Dachau for a long time.

There he runs a snack bar in the old town and an inn just outside.

Self-employed since 2009, Zechner is also the head of two large company canteens.

Another engagement as a landlord is waiting for him in Nandlstadt (Freising district).

Revival with a new date

Zechner also hopes that the new date in July will bring more visitors to the festival.

In the summer holidays, when the Maisacher folk festival used to take place, too many people traveled.

In order to attract more families, the 45-year-old even wants to offer two afternoons for this target group at reasonable prices.

Zechner is also confident about the staff.

If you pay fairly, good people can be found - despite the bottlenecks in the catering trade.

In any case, he has a regular staff of over 100 waitresses for the Dachau folk festival.

Zechner gets a three-year contract from the municipality of Maisach, so he will design the festival week in 2023, 2024 and 2025.

With folk festival speaker Tobias Ottilinger (CSU) and Lena Bartenschlager from Maisacher town hall, he will be working out the program planned for this year in more detail in the near future.

The Maisach brewery is also on board - we already know each other: Maisach beer flows into Zechner's snack bar in Dachau.

prehistory

After the retirement of the long-standing festival host Jochen Mörz and the 2022 interlude with René Kaiser, the community was desperately looking for a new host - who would liven up the festival week.

Because sales kept going down.

Mayor Hans Seidl (CSU) said in the municipal council that the festival week needed an “economically successful future”, not just keeping it alive.

Ewald Zechner had not publicly presented his concept to the municipal council on Thursday evening - and then immediately received the contract.
