The ex-companion of Julie Douib, killed on Ile Rousse, in Corsica in March 2019, estimated at the opening of his appeal trial on Friday in Ajaccio that he did not have a "fair and equitable" trial at first instance.
Bruno Garcia-Cruciani, 46, shaved head, dressed in blue jeans and a jacket, appeared before the Assize Court of Appeal until January 27.
He faces life imprisonment, a sentence to which he was sentenced at first instance, accompanied by a security period of 22 years and the deprivation of his parental authority.
The accused denounces the overmediatization

I did not have a fair and equitable trial due to the
over-mediatization of my case," he told the court on Friday, calling for "
not to confuse justice with revenge
".
This feminicide had led to a vast mobilization against violence against women in France.

The most important thing is my children, it's been four years since I've heard from him
," he added, saying that "
it's very hard, harder than being locked up
".
"
Certainly, by my gesture, they will no longer hear their mother's voice
", he acknowledged, but "
I will never leave my children, I will never abandon my children
", he hammered .

I do not admit to having gone to kill Julie
," he also said, denying any premeditation.
During the investigation, the accused admitted to having come to the home of his ex-companion, with whom he had two sons and from whom he had been separated since September 2018, and to have shot him before surrendering to the gendarmes.
Family and political reactions
Lucien and Violetta Douib, the parents of Julie Douib as well as the victim's brother, Jordan, are civil parties.

Unfortunately we have to go through it but it's exhausting to hear again what he did to Julie and her children
," Lucien Douib told AFP.
The couple's sons, now 12 and 14, are not attending the trial.
“
They are worried that one day he will come out and take them back
,” added Lucien Douib.
"
The first conviction had clarified the future for them, but now they are afraid
," added Jordan, Julie's brother, to AFP.
This 30th feminicide out of the 146 counted in 2019 had aroused great emotion and gave rise to the organization in September 2019 of a "Grenelle" - equivalent to a summit - against domestic violence which resulted in 46 measures including the deployment anti-reconciliation bracelets.
