In the affair of confidential government documents from his time as Vice President found in his private home and in an office he used to use, US President Joe Biden has emphasized his willingness to clarify.
"We are fully cooperating and look forward to resolving this matter quickly," said Biden on Thursday (local time) during a visit to the US state of California to reporter questions.
The matter is meaningless: "I think you will find out that there is nothing there."
It turned out that "a handful of documents had been filed in the wrong place," said the US President.
These were immediately handed over to the National Archives and the Ministry of Justice.
Last week it became known that around a dozen confidential government documents from his time as Vice President under Biden Obama were found in an office formerly used by Biden.
Other classified documents were subsequently discovered in Biden's garage and at his home in Delaware.
The US Department of Justice then appointed a special prosecutor to investigate the case.
The incident is sensitive for Biden: It gives rise to comparisons with the discovery of hundreds of secret documents in the estate of his predecessor Donald Trump in Florida.
Trump's case is also being investigated by a special counsel.
A US law requires presidents and vice presidents to turn over all their emails, letters and other documents to the National Archives after leaving office.
