The Constitutional Council cancels the election of two deputies

A dysfunction concerning the vote of Karim Ben Cheïkh and Éléonore Caroit prevented several thousand voters from taking part in the vote.


The Constitutional Council canceled this Friday, January 20, the elections in June 2022 of the deputies Éléonore Caroit (Renaissance) and Karim Ben Cheïkh (Nupes) "

for malfunctions

The body responsible for electoral disputes, on the other hand, rejected four other appeals concerning these legislative elections and it still has to rule on 11 others, he said in a press release.

Cancellation of the election of Éléonore Caroit

The Constitutional Council canceled the election of the 2nd constituency of French people living outside France (Latin America), won in the second round with 57.42% of the vote by Éléonore Caroit (Renaissance) against Nupes Christian Rodriguez (42.58% ).

the opening of the voting period, only 11% of telephone messages containing passwords (in Argentina) had actually been delivered to voters

In the 9th constituency of the French outside France (Maghreb and West Africa), the Constitutional Council canceled the victory of Karim Ben Cheïkh (Nupes) who had won the second round with 54.07% of the vote against 45.93% for former minister Elisabeth Moreno (Renaissance).

For these two constituencies, a new election must be organized within three months.

Several appeals dismissed

The Constitutional Council rejected the appeals concerning the 8th constituency of Seine-et-Marne won by a short margin by Hadrien Ghomi (Renaissance) with 50.01% of the vote against Nupes Arnaud Bonnet (49.99%).

He did the same in the 5th Loiret, also narrowly won by Renaissance Anthony Brosse (50.02%) against RN Valentin Manent (49.98), as well as in the first of the French established outside France, won by Industry Minister Roland Lescure with 55.63% of the vote.
