This Thursday, January 19, thousands of Peruvians converged on the capital Lima to express their opposition to the government, while other demonstrations took place in the south of the country, notably in Cuzco and Puno, where the airports had to be closed.
Since the dismissal of Pedro Castillo and his replacement by Vice-President Dîna Boluarte on December 7, demonstrations have not ceased in the Andean region.
The violent repression of his marches left more than 50 dead and more than 700 injured.
The main demand is the organization of elections to designate a new president and a new Congress.
The demonstrators are also calling for the drafting of a new Constitution.
The one in force was drafted in 1993, under the dictatorship of Alberto Fujimori, with a strong neoliberal connotation.
The repression of these demonstrations left more than 50 dead, including the last two on the night of Thursday to Friday.
