The police said that the East Kowloon and West Kowloon Regional Traffic Division Enforcement and Control Teams conducted law enforcement operations in the region during the Chinese New Year, focusing on combating illegal racing, speeding and other related crimes.
After in-depth investigation and intelligence analysis, the officers stopped and searched 35 private cars suspected of being engaged in illegal racing at about 1:30 am today (January 22) at Shek Kok Road, Environmental Protection Avenue, Tseung Kwan O.
After inspection, nine of the private cars were suspected to have been illegally modified in violation of the Road Traffic (Construction and Maintenance of Vehicles) Regulations. The vehicles involved have been detained at the Kowloon Bay Vehicle Inspection Center for further inspection.
In addition, officers also issued defective vehicle reports to 10 other vehicles involved.
During the operation, officers arrested a 24-year-old male driver surnamed Ye. He was wanted for unpaid fines and is currently being detained for investigation.
The Police appeal to motorists not to defy the law, and will continue to strengthen law enforcement against illegal racing, illegally modified vehicles and other traffic violations. Through strict traffic law enforcement actions, the roads will be smooth, the public will be protected and the road safety awareness of road users will be raised.
