Occupied Jerusalem - SANA
The International Court of Justice informed the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs that it had officially received the referral of the United Nations General Assembly resolution, which requests the court to give its legal opinion on settlements and violations of the rights of the Palestinian people by Israel, the occupying power.
WAFA news agency quoted the ministry as saying in a statement today: It had received a letter from the Registrar of the International Court of Justice, Philip Gauter, informing the State of Palestine and the countries concerned to appear before the court that the court’s registry had officially received the referral of the United Nations General Assembly resolution issued on the 30th of last month, which requests An advisory opinion from the court on Israel's violations of the rights of the Palestinian people and the duties of the international community in this regard.
The Palestinian Foreign Ministry indicated that the path for the court to issue its legal opinion has begun, and this requires concerted national, regional and international efforts to achieve justice, explaining that it is following up with its missions in the United Nations and The Hague technical procedures leading to inviting countries to submit written and oral pleadings.
And the United Nations General Assembly adopted on the 30th of last month a Palestinian draft resolution asking the International Court of Justice for its legal opinion on settlements and violations (Israel) of the rights of the Palestinian people, and in retaliation for that, the occupation authorities imposed on the sixth of this month sanctions against the Palestinian people and their leadership and civil society organizations and institutions.
