The head of the delegation of the Unitary Platform, Gerardo Blyde, criticized that his pro-government counterpart in the dialogues between the government and the Venezuelan opposition in Mexico conditioned future meetings on the disbursement of US$ 3,200 million, which form part of a partial agreement signed last year and seeks to address the humanitarian crisis that the South American country has been experiencing for several years.

At a press conference held this Friday in Caracas, Blyde denied that the deal had been breached, as suggested by Jorge Rodríguez, president of the National Assembly and spokesman for the government of Nicolás Maduro in the talks.

“It was never stated that these funds were going to be transferred in one fell swoop;

It was never said in that signed agreement that the money was going to go into any Maduro government account.”

On Tuesday Rodríguez warned that if the "return" of US$ 3.200 million was not fulfilled - which according to his version - is part of the social protection agreement, there was no reason to continue talking with whom he accused of being "people without a word."

Blyde's version establishes an amount lower than that reported by Rodríguez —US$ 3,000 million— and, according to him, the document establishes that both parties must participate in the process of identifying and unlocking funds abroad, in order to implement the agreement. through the United Nations.

Blyde stressed that only joint work will make it possible to find the legal and technical mechanisms to unlock them and be able to start their transfer to a trust fund that will be managed by the United Nations.

“We have to roll up our sleeves, stop the camorra (fighting), the incendiary speech and come back to the table to find solutions,” Blyde said.

CNN contacted the Maduro government delegation to find out their reaction without having received a response so far.

According to the agreement, the funds would be invested in health, education, the electrical system and to help those affected by the rains.

The projects, which were announced to be carried out in several phases, would be carried out by the United Nations.

The document of the agreement mentioned by Rodríguez was made public after the signing in Mexico;

In its first point, it establishes the constitution of a monitoring and verification commission with 5 representatives of each of the parties and a representative of Norway as mediator.
