Avatar 2: The Way of the Water
' continues to engulf the North American box office and is now part of the tight club of films that have surpassed $2 billion in worldwide revenue, according to preliminary figures Sunday from the specialist firm Exhibitor Relations.
With $19.7 million in revenue this weekend (Friday to Sunday) in the United States and Canada (compared to $31 million last weekend), James Cameron's film tops the charts for the sixth week in a row .
The film earned nearly 598 million dollars in North America, and 1.43 billion in the rest of the world to exceed the symbolic bar of 2 billion dollars.
Only six films have reached it in history, including three by the Canadian filmmaker ("
Avatar
", "
Avatar 2
" and "
Titanic
").
