The percentage of rain-fed wheat cultivation in Daraa during the current agricultural season reached 83.9 percent, with 9,625 hectares being cultivated out of the planned area of 82,887 hectares.
The Director of Agriculture, Eng. Bassam Al-Hashish, mentioned in a statement to SANA reporter today that the Directorate is working with the Sub-Committee on Fuels to include the areas cultivated with wheat with quantities of diesel fuel for irrigation needs, in order to compensate for the shortage in rainfall, indicating that cooperation and coordination between the Ministries of Agriculture and Electricity continues to increase the quantities of electricity needed to operate the wells. agricultural sector, which will reflect positively on the wheat crop.
Al-Hashish indicated that the extension units are now conducting a survey of the areas planted with wheat, and organizing the necessary schedules for allocating diesel oil on its basis, calling on farmers to follow up on cultivation and report agricultural pests to treat them according to the most effective methods.
The percentage of irrigated wheat and barley cultivation in this season reached 100 percent, through the cultivation of 10,500 hectares of irrigated wheat, and about 32,422 hectares of barley.
