In the midst of the complaints and repudiations against the arrival of Nicolás Maduro to Argentina,
Alberto Fernández
defended the Venezuelan's visit and justified his presence:
"Venezuela is part of CELAC and Maduro is more than invited."
The President gave an interview to the Brazilian newspaper
Folha de Sao Paulo
on the occasion of the visit of the President of Brazil, Lula Da Silva, who will hold a bilateral meeting with Fernández and will later participate in the meeting of the multilateral organization of the region.
Asked about the controversy unleashed in the opposition by the possible presence of Maduro in the country, Fernández confirmed that he will be in Buenos Aires and justified his presence.
“Venezuela is part of CELAC and Maduro is more than invited. As far as I know, it will,"
he said in the interview that was conducted at the Olivos residence.
The Head of State affirmed that Argentina's position in relation to Venezuela is to promote, through the Contact Group, the dialogues that are being carried out in Mexico.
“We believe that they can give good results. The idea is that Venezuelans decide among Venezuelans, not with us,"
said the president.
In recent days, the opposition has come out at the crossroads of Maduro's visit.
This Sunday, the pre-candidate for president Patricia Bullrich asked the office that the DEA has in Argentina to arrest the Venezuelan president when he steps on Argentine soil for his alleged links to drug trafficking.
For his part, former President
Mauricio Macri
published a letter on Facebook in which he assured that he feels "ashamed" for the invitation extended by the Government to Presidents Nicolás Maduro (Venezuela) and Miguel Díaz-Canel (Cuba).
