It is "
with a heavy heart
" that Binyamin Netanyahu finally resigned himself to respecting the decision of the Supreme Court of Israel.
On Sunday January 22, during the Council of Ministers, the head of the Israeli government announced the ousting of Aryé Dery, his Minister of Health and the Interior.
He immediately expressed his regret, presenting Dery as
"a pillar of experience, intelligence and responsibility".
A few days earlier, 10 of the 11 judges making up the Supreme Court, the body that oversees the entire Israeli judicial system, had spoken out against the appointment of Aryé Dery to these ministerial posts.
The judges considered that it was not
“reasonable”
to entrust such responsibilities to the leader of Shas, an ultra-Orthodox Sephardic party, because of his judicial past.
“This person has been convicted three times in his life,
explained the president of the Supreme Court.
