Both a pool and a jacuzzi: the old house crumbled and a new house rose from the ruins - voila! Home and design

It was another gray house in the heart of a residential neighborhood in Sharon, but they saw its charm, and even when the rotten roof collapsed, they didn't give up - "every constraint created something new, and usually cooler too"

If only you knew how many unpleasant surprises there were here during the renovation.

How do you know if a certain property is right for you? This is one of the most important, and certainly the most expensive, decisions you will make in your life. For one young family The deliberations and the decisions that followed paid off hugely. They deliberated a lot, searched and wanted to find the house to buy that would give them the answer to all their desires, dreams and needs - without compromise. "To make sure that the house they saw could indeed meet all the requirements, we started accompanying them even before the purchase.

We did a location tour and basically made sure that everything was possible to implement.

In a joint decision, we decided not to demolish and rebuild, but to leave the existing structure and carry out a renovation from the ground up inside and out", says Merav Chernichovsky and Rotem Seidler from Studio Lagom who are responsible for this transformation of an old house in Sharon.

The design concept chosen for the house is modern and clean.

"The tenants, who immediately connected with our design style, believed in us and gave us a free hand to operate. Until they received the house in their hands, a process that took about a year. We realized that what we thought would start as a "normal renovation", was going to take a turn in the plot", they say.

The house has existed for about 50 years and has 160 square meters of built-up area, and as it turned out, it required much more constructive consideration in the renovation than planned. The typical took a long time. The roof of the upper floor, which was discovered to be rotten from the ground up, and more. Everything created a longer process than expected. Of course, we did not take any risks, we did everything to make the house safe and fit for living and, moreover, to provide a maximum and optimal response to the needs and tastes of the tenants - a couple with 3 children Small ones," Chernihovski shares.

They moved from a tiny apartment to a huge house, and only one thing interested them

"On the day we set off, everything was already waiting in the warehouses for implementation" (Photo: Gideon Levin)

After we finished dealing with the engineering surprises, we turned to talk about the design concept - the chosen style is modern, minimalist and clean. Since it took a year to get all the necessary approvals to complete the purchase of the house, this left enough time to purchase all the furniture and elements in advance." On the day we set out, everything was already waiting in the warehouses for implementation," Seidler says.

The public spaces are concentrated on the entrance floor of the house - to the left of the entrance door is a long, open and ventilated kitchen where a huge stainless steel surface measuring 3 meters long by 1 meter wide, ordered from Italy and arrived as one piece - which was cut in an incredibly precise way. Custom made carpentry items and kitchen cabinets were matched to it so that they fit together perfectly. Furniture in wood and wood tones completes the design image and creates a uniform stylistic line in all parts of the house.

An old house also has its advantages - the rooms are much larger and more spacious than what is usually built today.

The "official" living room is relatively small for the size of the house, because it also has a family space and an intimate and fun TV room on the other side of the entrance.

The walls of the living room and the kitchen were opened and installed in their place glass display cases along and across the entire wall, from which you can also go outside, to the yard - which for the owners of the house is a very central part of the house - he is a high level cook and his wife is a baker from Doppelman and they really like to host, and a lot.

They asked the designers to design a professional outdoor kitchen for them with a tabon, full accessories, a quality barbecue and all the necessary facilities.

"Besides all of this, we wanted to preserve the natural energy that is outside, so we chose natural materials: natural stones in dark gray shades at a variable discount for the outdoor flooring, green "bluestone" stone for the pool and light, young and comfortable furniture from tollman's dot and Pa Normal," explains Chernihovski.

The second floor remained as it was in terms of the division of the space and the location of the rooms, and thus the original spaces of the house were preserved, in the style of construction that was once customary - of rooms in a spacious and larger area than is customary to build today.

The pair of designers designed 3 large children's rooms, where each one has climbing ladders adapted to their age for children who love extremes.

Adjacent to them is a bathroom with interesting, fun and contrasting colors: a green wall with fishbone tiles and a salmon pink bathroom cabinet.

This color combination creates something more cheerful, compared to the neutral, Scandinavian color palette of the downstairs.

The master suite also benefits from a large area and includes a pleasant and calm bathroom that received a turn in the process.

"That's part of the point of renovating an old house - you discover patches upon patches of all kinds of problems that require adjustments and changes from the original plan we were preparing for," says Rotem Sidler.

When we took it down, wooden beams were exposed, which give the feeling of a country cottage, and also create a very high ceiling that made the space very impressive.

Those lovely beams created another constraint - they didn't allow the bed to be attached to the end of the wall, so we were 'forced' to design a bed back unit that we designated in advance to be used for shoe storage."

Another surprise was to discover the attic that was added to the house about 20 years ago "Its roof actually created the opportunity to add a small balcony that comes off the master bedroom, and it definitely adds to the whole vibe of the intimate-romantic space.

The balcony is equipped with a jacuzzi and lounge chairs and everything is very meticulous and minimalistic, which creates the feeling of an ADULT ONLY ZONE.

And so additions born out of compulsion created an opportunity for something new and usually cooler," Rotem and Merev conclude.
